WFMU Session

Our recent live session on Irene Trudel’s show is now up at the excellent Free Music Archive - check it here.

The 2009 session we did is also up there; check that one here.

For all those Misty Roses anoraks out there (I know there are tons of you out there), our session from 2007 with Gaylord Fields is also up on WFMU’s site here.

We love WFMU…… Their blog isn’t too bad either.

Misty Roses will be featured tonight Wed., June 1 on the mighty Jonny Mugwump’s mighty EXOTIC PYLON program!Dig Jonny’s kind words in re: the group:“This Wednesday on FNOOB Underground we have a guest mix from my favourite pop band of the last few years - the divine Misty Roses.Jonny Perl and Robert Conroy are a transatlantic duo living out a cinematic fantasy of dark romance and sci-fi melodrama and as Misty Roses they utilise guitar, electronics and vocals to shoot 60’s easy-listening glamour and European grandeur into the 31st Century. Jonny and Robert’s romantic guest mix takes us on a breathless tour of the their obsessions - arch melodrama, gothic collapse, cinematic whirlpools, post-punk dementia and radiophonic pop.”(The program goes live @ 10 p.m. (GMT) and will be available for download from Thursday night at http://exoticpylon.com/)

Weird Tales for Winter

We are proud to have contributed to this year’s Weird Tales for Winter. For background, see http://weirdtales.me and http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=121149551289672.

Misty Roses’s contribution is our reading of The Clock by W.F. Harvey.  We’ve put together a suitably eerie soundscape with additional assistance from Mark Heffernan. Vocals were recorded and mixed by Julia Brightly.

It will be broadcast this coming Wednesday, 02/02/11 – at 01.15 (that’s UK time) on Resonance FM.  You can listen at 104.4 FM in the UK, or online via http://resonancefm.com/. In addition, this and all Weird Tales contributions will be archived at http://weirdtales.me.

Below is the full press release:

Jonny Mugwump presents …Weird Tales For Winter

Season 2

29/01/11 - 05/02/11

Doubt of the real facts, as I must reveal them, is inevitable; yet if I suppressed what will seem extravagant and incredible there would be nothing left.”

-HP Lovecraft

Following the success of Weird Tales For Winter’s inaugural season - which seeped out over the airwaves during the cold early weeks of 2010 and featured contributions from Belbury Poly, John Foxx, Moon Wiring Club, Radio Joy, Mordant Music, Vanessa Daou and other lurkers on the threshold - Jonny Mugwump has built on the reputation of his Exotic Pylon radio show with Resonance 104.4 FM to invite you to experience a second season of narrative peculiarity and timbral disturbance, commencing on Saturday 29th February at 9:30pm with an exclusive collaboration between The Advisory Circle and Moon Wiring Club based on William Hope Hodgson’s 1910 short story, The Gateway Of The Monster.

Jonny has kept the format unchanged – readings from classics of weird literature and brand new tales of the uncanny are accompanied by specially commissioned soundtracks from some of the world’s most exciting and innovative musicians. Yet with each contributor known for their ability to disturb, delight and disorientate, listeners will no doubt find themselves drawing the curtains, double-checking the door chain and tightly clutching their runes of protection in a ritualistic attempt to ward off the ever encroaching darkness.

In addition to the Weird Tales themselves, Resonance and FNOOB Underground will be broadcasting a series of exclusive mixes from Cottage of Electric Hell, K-Punk and Pye Corner Audio - sonic spells designed to further erode the membrane between our dimension and the realm beyond.

The curious will find more to whet their unholy appetites online, with a dedicated Facebook group featuring its own interactive grimoire (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=245883818964), Twitter feed (http://twitter.com/#!/weirdwinter) and the Weird Tales website (http://weirdwinter.me/) where tales from both seasons will be archived with sundry other unwholesome delights.
